Hotel

Border Hotel 01573 420237     Kelso, Scottish Borders.

Built in 1750 as a coaching inn with a totally thatched roof, the Border Hotel was originally known as the 'Grey Horse'. In 1893 the thatched roof on the main building was replaced and the name was changed to the 'Border Inn'. In 1898 the gable was built and the name changed again to the 'Border Hotel'.

Over the years the building has been progressively altered and upgraded. It now boasts a conservatory leading onto a beer garden, a function room and two small dining rooms - as well as all the modern facilities the discerning traveller has come to associate with quality accommodation.

The bedrooms all have wardrobes and dressing tables or chests of drawers with bedside lamps. Beds have duvets and pillows. Linen is provided on request.

Hundalee has had several distinguished owners. The kitchen displays the marriage stone of the 4th Lord of Jedburgh Robert Kerr and his wife Dame Christian Hamilton, their initials entwined and dated 1667.

1107 - 2008 Dating back to 1107 it was originally a hunting lodge for the kings and queens of Scotland. Later a refuge for Catholic priests in times of terror the Stuarts of Traquair supported Mary Queen of Scots and the Jacobite cause without counting the cost.
